This is a premium experience developed with Cultural Attractions of Australia in mind.
Enjoy a premium steam journey and exclusive behind-the-scenes workshop tour.
Step into the story of Tasmania’s West Coast as the person who once ran it.
This three-day hosted experience places guests in the shoes of the General Manager of the Mount Lyell Mining and Railway Company, based at the grand 1898 Penghana Mansion in Queenstown. More than six General Managers lived here, including Robert and Marion Sticht, who presided over the railway’s golden era.
Today, the house is privately owned and beautifully restored. Guests enjoy exclusive use of the property, hosted by its current custodians. Each element of the stay is curated to echo the legacy of the railway and its people, from historic rooms and formal dining to immersive rail access.
The experience includes a private Footplate Experience aboard a working steam locomotive, a behind-the-scenes tour of WCWR infrastructure, and meals at Tracks Café.
