National Portrait Gallery Launches Exclusive New Experiences Celebrating Art, Stories and Australian Flavours
The National Portrait Gallery, through the Cultural Attractions of Australia (CAOA) collective, has unveiled a suite of new visitor experiences, inviting guests to delve deeper into the art of portraiture through personalised activities that blend culture, storytelling and exceptional hospitality.
The hero of the new offering is the Art of Portraiture Premium Lunch, an intimate experience ideal for small groups of two to four. Guests enjoy a private, one-hour guided tour of the Gallery’s most compelling works, learning about the architecture of the iconic building and gaining insights into the lives and legacies behind the faces on the walls. The tour is followed by a seasonal three-course lunch at the Portrait Café, featuring premium Australian produce, cool-climate Canberra wines, and the best seat in the house—with personalised service to match.
Also now available are the Art of Portraiture Morning Tea and Seasonal Lunch experiences, which include a guided tour and a more casual dining component—perfect for guests wanting a relaxed yet enriching cultural outing.
“These experiences reflect the growing trend we’re seeing globally—travellers are increasingly seeking experiential and meaningful travel, with a focus on authentic local experiences,” said Tristan Hoffmeister, Director, Access & Learning. “Through portraiture, guests gain invaluable insights into Australians—past and present—as well as the artists who capture their stories. It’s a uniquely powerful way to connect with our culture.”
These new experiences mark the beginning of an exciting chapter for the Gallery, which is continuing to develop a range of bespoke offerings, including a soon-to-be-launched high-end private gallery dining experience curated by renowned chef Matt Moran.
